an experiment, so she had told herself, convincing worried mind that this was all it was, an experiment - - muggle magic, smoke-and-mirrors, deceptions and illusions, mirages to trick and charm. they will laugh to hear it later, her sisters, they will ask why she went at all, and she won’t be able to explain. all she knows is that her hands loose-knotted in her lap did not raise, she has been trying to sink deep into shadow, out of sight, but it has not helped. (still she stands, unwilling to be rude else simply too shocked, she stands and she joins him on stage, and hopes there is no one in the audience to know her). 

It was a trick that none other had performed on stage before, they simply didn’t have the apparatus to boil cold water without the obvious use of some form of heat beneath the oversized bowl. It made him smug, to know that his competitors within London’s wide borders didn’t have the limited use of true magic. He’d damn his father for drowning before he could teach him the far more advanced tricks.

A smile was flashed to the tentative woman, Alistair the Enchanter saw it as a personal challenge to shift that still expression. He gestured to the bowl upon a small, rounded table, addressing her without forgetting the audience that watched with parted mouths; they wanted to be SHOCKED.
